How to see the mysterious barking dog in "The Power of the Dog"

Did you see the mysterious "running dog" in Jane Campion’s psycho-western #ThePowerOfTheDog ?

Also described as a "barking dog,” the image appears as a shadow in the mountains of Montana (actually New Zealand).

Only Phil (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Peter (Kodi Smit-McPhee) can see it in the film, but a making-of book by Assouline gives everybody a glimpse.

Is it a genuine optical illusion, digital trickery — or a supernatural presence?

"The Power of the Dog" had the most nominations — 12 — going into the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022. It won just one Oscar: Best Director for Campion. The “Dog” had much bark but no bite. 🌓
